Details of branch activities since last report. Please include information from local branch officer reports, event reports, etc: :
The year 2008 have included the following events in Styringheim:
Gourmet feast - 14-16 mar
Featured a dessert theme for the banquet, also there was a guided tour of the parish medieval church by Master Skafte, and workshops in various subjects.
Pear war - 5-8 jun
A quite small event, aproximately 20+ participants, but very appreciated. Featured tournaments in fighting, fencing, gotlandic games and a small melee.
Medieval week - 2-10 aug
As always one of the biggest events in Drachenwald, this year on the same site as the last four years, right beside the medieval gallows. Featured numerous activities including but not limited to workshops, heavy fighting and fencing tournaments, war, pärk, classes, archery etc.
Principality tournament - 7 aug
During the Medieval week the principality tournament was fought, and the event held by Styringheim. Victorious was Rok Tingfaste who fought for his Wilda.
Storstyringkampen - 6-7 sep
Traditinally held beside and in the reconstructed iron age house in Lojsta parish, the fight for becoming the next Storstyring and Storstyra was held, and victorious was Jorulf fra Valle and Eisarfwes Märta.
Lucia feast and baronial investiture - 13 dec
The event was held at the Chapter house in Visby, and the feast in the 15th century hall. New baron and baroness (Jorulf and Märta) was elected, under the watchful eye of their Highnesses Rok and Wilda.
Apart from events, Styringheim has also done in a few demos for SCA and the barony, for example at the local university where information was spread and a few members were recruited. Styringheim also held a demo with campsite, cooking etc. at Mariefreds medieval days at the mainland.
For many years Styringheim has also participated in the jousting events held by the organization Medieval Week, that takes place tuesdays and thursdays in july, five occasions at Mariefreds medieval days and on six occasions during the medieval week. We participate with six heavy fighters at every such event.
The newsletter Hwitastjerna was given out six times this year, every second month starting in february.
Our scriptorium has been very active, and produced a lot of extremely high class scrolls. If anyone in Styringheim worthy of the highest praise, it's definately the scriptorium. We are very proud of their work.
Activity on weekly basis have been a bit more scarce, we have had member meetings every first wednesday in the month, and textile / sewing meetings every wednesday. Heavy fighter practices have had it's ups and downs, but generally once a week.
Pärk (a gotlandic ball-game) have been practiced during the spring, especially the ladies team. Both men and women traditionally participated in the Stånga games (a gotlandic olympiad of sorts), with good results from the women and a bit less inspiring by the gents. However spirits were high, and aims for next year were set already at site.
The Styringheim website are under total reconstruction, to improve information spreading in the barony, and will be launched late january 2009.
Styringheim remains an active part of the Gotland histocal environment, and is seen now and then in such situations.
Goals set for the branch:
To improve activities on a weekly basis, and get more people to join in on other things than events.
Hold five events, named Gourmet feast (which this year includes Nordmarks university), Pear war, Medieval week, Storstyringkampen and Lucia feast.
Maintain a high standard on keeping the dream alive, by being an active part in Nordmark and Drachenwald.
